Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Africa’s wealthiest individual and founder of the Dangote Group, has announced plans to name a 20-kilometer road within his refinery and petrochemical company in Ibeju-Lekki after the late Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe. Dangote expressed his profound gratitude to Wigwe, stating that the late banker played a pivotal role in the success of the Dangote Group.
Wigwe, who tragically passed away in a helicopter crash along with his wife, son, and a friend, was celebrated for his visionary leadership and transformative impact on the economic and social landscape. Dangote described Wigwe as a devoted friend, mentee, and brother, emphasizing his courage and distinction.
In honor of Wigwe’s legacy, Dangote decided to immortalize him by naming a significant road within the refinery and petrochemical complex after him. This gesture reflects Dangote’s deep appreciation for Wigwe’s contributions and underscores the lasting impact he had on the business community.
Furthermore, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, pledged to immortalize Wigwe by commemorating his birthplace, the Lagos Island Maternity. Sanwo-Olu recognized Wigwe’s significance and expressed his commitment to preserving his memory for future generations.
The decision to honor Wigwe reflects the profound respect and admiration he commanded in both the private and public sectors. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of leaders and entrepreneurs, leaving an indelible mark on Nigeria’s business landscape.
