Deadline set by terrorists for payment of ransoms for 56 abducted Niger State residents

No fewer than 56 kidnapped residents of Kaffin-Koro community in the Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State kidnapped by terrorists have cried for help as the bandits issued an ultimatum for payment of ransom for their release.

Recall that since May 10, 2023, the terrorists stormed Kaffin-Koro community and kidnapped scores of residents who were mostly farmers and traders.

According to reports, several of the kidnapped individuals from Kaffin-Koro community in Niger State were released after their families paid ransom to the terrorists. A source revealed that their relatives were released after a payment of N7.5 million. Disturbing video footage also showed the bandits subjecting the victims to brutal treatment and issuing threats, with some of the male victims bound in leg chains and the females surrounded by armed terrorists.The families of the abducted victims have reportedly been given an ultimatum by the bandits, demanding the payment of the requested ransom or else their loved ones will be harmed. This development has caused fear and anxiety among the residents of Kaffin Koro community. A resident mentioned that the release of the video showcasing the victims’ suffering has intensified the distress in the community.

In response to the situation, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Biodun Wasiu, assured that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies and neighboring states, are actively working towards the rescue of the abducted individuals. He emphasized the joint efforts with the military and the cooperation with neighboring states to ensure a successful operation and the safe release of the victims from captivity.
