EFCC recovers additional N70m looted fund for Kwara

The Ilorin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed that it has recovered additional N70m for the Kwara State Government in its ongoing efforts to recover looted funds allegedly stolen by corrupt individuals.

It will be recalled that the Commission had on the 11th of October 2019 handed over the sum of N112m recovered to Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq in Ilorin.

Speaking on Wednesday as a Guest at the Nigerian Television Authority, Ilorin on its programme “Morning Safari, the Zonal Head of the EFCC, Mr Isyaku Sharu said the N70m was recovered in the ongoing investigations into the spending of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS)

According to him: “We beam our search lights on Political Office Holders, Civil Servants and internet fraudsters, you remember recently, we handed over about one hundred and twelve million naira cash recovery to his Excellency, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, but I can tell you that our ongoing investigations into the spending of KWIRS, we have recovered additional Seventy million naira.

“We came at the eve of 2019 General Elections, we embarked on anti vote buying, our roles on the elections made the exercise to be free, fair and credible, we discovered that about one billion naira was diverted by some government officials, we investigated it and saved the State’s resources.”

Speaking on other achievements of the Zone, The Ilorin EFCC boss said: “As it is today, we have 44 convictions in Ilorin Zonal Office, forty two of them were prosecuted on offences that border on internet fraud other fraud related Offences, we must join hands to fight the menace of internet fraud because it affects our image as a Country.

“Parents, traditional rulers and religious leaders must play their roles in the fight against corruption.”

The Ilorin Zonal Head of the anti graft body however appealed to the people of Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti States to continue to partner with the EFCC by giving relevant information that would assist the Commission in the discharge if its responsibilities.
