Former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC, with the hope of taking over the party structure in Borno and avenging himself against his loyalists who deserted him may have been thoroughly disappointed with the decision by the APC to opt for indirect primaries in choosing governorship and other candidates in the forthcoming elections.
This is happening just as his former Deputy, Alhaji Adamu Dibal, the Waziri of Biu lampooned him for being desperate to grap power and use it for political vendetta, describing Sheriff as the looser in the current power game in Borno.
A video of the interview Dibal granted a few journalists in Abuja has gone viral in the social media, in which the former number two man in Borno castigated his former boss, for abandoning the people of Borno and the APC at a very critical stage, only to come back with a plot to destabilize the Government of the state and in turn the APC.
Dibal said, as it is, Sheriff does not have any value he can add to the electoral fortunes of the APC and the President, Muhammadu Buhari, who he has all along been working against.
According to Dibal, Ali Sheriff has a hidden agenda and plans to use the party heirachy and security agents that are attached to him to haunt the State Governor, Kashim Shettima and other politicians in Borno State who fail to go by his whims and caprices.
Adamu Dibal was at the head of other former loyalists of Ali Modu Sheriff who refused to decamp with him to the PDP and has renmained a consisten critic of his former boss, whom he accused of trying to play god in the politics of Borno state.
Hardly has Dibal’s attack on his boss subsided, before the Caucus and NEC of the APC adopted direct primaries for picking the President and indirect primaries for the governorship and others, which sources confirmed seemed to have unsettled Ali Modu Sheriff.
Sheriff who was reported to have hijacked the ongoing online membership registration in the hope of boosting his follower ship in the event of direct primaries for the elections in Borno could not hide his disappointment when he spoke to his lieutenants after the announcement of the party’s decision.
Our correspondent who has been following developments around the embattled former governor reports that, the twin developments in the last few days were clear indications that Ali Modu Sheriff has lost out in the Borno power game to his erstwhile godson, Kashim Shettima.
