Fake news: APC Ex-LG boss, 3 others suspended in Kwara

By Stephen Olufemi Oni, Ilorin

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Opin Ward, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State has suspended the former Chairman of the local government, Mr Dele Abiodun, for allegedly spreading fake news that the local government party Chairman, Mr Wale Awelewa, has been suspended from the party.

The ex-chairman, who was suspended alongside Ayeni Alani Gabriel, Alayo Ajuba and Ibiloye Michael, was accused of collecting unverified signatures which indicated that Awelewa had been suspended from the APC in Opin Ward of the local government area.

The party, however, passed a vote of confidence in Awelewa, the embattled APC local government Chairman, in managing the affairs of the party.

These were part of the resolutions at the party stakeholders’ meeting in Ikerin-Opin, Ekiti local government area, and had in attendance elders and leaders of the party.

The APC Chairman in Opin Ward, Mr Gabriel Fasikun, who presided over the meeting, dissociated himself from the alleged plot, saying “the local government party Chairman is unremovable and unshakable with his good character in developing the party and the local government at large.”

Also speaking, APC leader in Ekiti local government area, Chief James Bamisaye Ayeni, described as lie from the pit of hell the report that Awelewa had been suspended from the party, recalling that stakeholders and members of the party present at an earlier meeting they held had unanimously agreed to support the second term bid of the lawmaker representing Ekiti Constituency in the state House of Assembly, Hon Abolarin Ganiyu Gabriel, based on his excellent performance in the first term of office.

The Chief Imam of Isare Opin, Alhaji Usman Shittu, who also spoke, said he “stands for the truth and will never bend for anything but the truth,” adding that the news of the purported removal of the local government party Chairman was borne out of envy and conspiracy, describing it as baseless and a ruse.

At the meeting, the 27 ward executives under the chairmanship of Gabriel Fasikun stepped forward one after the other, insisting that they never partook in any conspiracy to suspend Mr Wale Awelewa as the APC Chairman in Ekiti local government.
