Father Kills Daughter Over TikTok Videos in Pakistan

In a tragic incident in Quetta, Pakistan, a father has confessed to fatally shooting his 15-year-old daughter, Hira, after she refused to cease posting videos on TikTok, which he deemed inappropriate. The father, Anwarul-Haq, and his brother-in-law, Tayyab Ali, have been arrested and are in police custody. The authorities are treating the case as an honor killing.

Honor killings are a grave issue in Pakistan, with approximately 1,000 women killed annually by close relatives under the pretext of preserving family honor, according to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan. These killings often involve family members punishing women who defy societal norms.

The tragic death of Hira underscores the urgent need for comprehensive measures to combat honor killings and protect women’s rights in Pakistan.
