Fayose Insists on Wike’s Inclusion in Tinubu’s Government

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has expressed his support for the appointment of former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, as a minister in President Tinubu’s government. In an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Fayose praised Wike’s capabilities and stated that he should serve in the cabinet.

Fayose also emphasized the role played by the G5 or Integrity Group, a group of influential members within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Tinubu’s victory in the February 25th presidential election. He urged Tinubu to appreciate their contribution and consider appointing Wike or any other member of the G5 in his government.

  1. Asserting his own stance, Fayose mentioned that he had no personal interest in becoming a minister but would support Wike’s appointment if Tinubu deemed him fit for the role. He described Wike as an articulate and capable individual, stating that Nigeria needs such leaders.

However, Fayose expressed his disappointment if Tinubu failed to acknowledge the support of the G5 members in his presidential ambition. He emphasized that Wike, being a valuable asset to Nigeria, should be given an opportunity to serve in the government.

Regarding speculations of the G5 members defecting from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Fayose clarified that they had no intention of doing so. He urged the PDP leadership to address internal issues and ensure unity within the party.

The G5 comprises four former PDP governors, namely Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Nyesom Wike (Rivers), as well as one current governor, Seyi Makinde (Oyo).

President Tinubu, who assumed office on May 29, 2023, is expected to announce his cabinet within 60 days. There have been speculations that he may consider including members of the opposition, such as Wike and Rabiu Kwankwaso, the flag bearer of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), among others.
