The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has revealed its intention to demolish all unauthorized attachments and illegal constructions at the prominent Area 1 Shopping Complex. This decision aims to restore the complex’s appearance and address issues related to improper parking, which had previously caused traffic congestion in the area.
The Director of FCTA Development Control, Muktar Galadima, disclosed this plan following a meeting with traders and shop owners in Abuja. Galadima emphasized that the congested and unsanitary conditions of the market posed risks to both traders and customers and were not conducive to safety and public health.
He stated that kilishi and suya vendors would be relocated to a designated area within the market, and parking spaces within the market would be reorganized. Additionally, efforts would be made to provide a single energy source instead of numerous noisy generators, reducing noise pollution.
Galadima stressed the importance of preventing potential disasters, such as fire outbreaks, which could be devastating in the current market conditions. The government aims to take proactive measures to enhance safety and sanitation in line with the vision of the FCT Administration.
He called for the support of all stakeholders in the market and assured that alternative shop arrangements would be made for those affected by the cleanup.
Usman Utaru, speaking on behalf of the traders, expressed gratitude to the FCT Administration for involving them in the decision-making process and pledged the traders’ cooperation in sanitizing the market, recognizing that it would ultimately benefit them.
