property worth millions of Naira have been destroyed in Damaturu town following a reported fire incident at Damaturu GSM market, Yobe state.

According to the reports , the fire started at around 0623 and lasted for several hours before it was brought under control by firefighters, security personnel and members of the community.

DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Public Relations Officer of the Police Command Yobe state who confirmed the incident, said that the security, firefighting vehicles were deployed to the scene of the fire.

He said the incident started at about 0623 hours destroyed over thirty shops during the incident. But no life were lost.

Added that, ” the fire is gradually being controlled by the firefighting, while over 30 shops were completely burnt down.

He added that the service would conduct an assessment to ascertain the extent of the damage.

One of the trade, said the fire started in one of the shops and engulfed other shops in the market.

Garba who is a cell-phon vendor lamented that a number of traders list their good in the inferno.

The market popularly called Kasuwar Jagol is located at Abashawa Ward area of the metropolis of Damaturu, providing business spaces to thousands of traders and artisans in the area

Our correspondent learnt that, security personal were deployed in the market to prevent hoodlums from looting.
