FRSC intensifies patrol to curb accidents in Anambra
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it is intensifying patrol on major roads and highways in Anambra to check recurring road traffic accidents in the state.
The state Sector Commander, Mr Andrew Kumapayi, disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent on Wednesday in Akwa at the inauguration of what he called “Motoring Patrol.’’
Kumapayi said that already more personnel and vehicles had been deployed across major roads in the state.
“In the last four days, we have been recording roads accidents along Onitsha-Nteje-Awka Expressways in which lives were lost.
“Since it is becoming a daily occurrence, we cannot fold our hands, while people continue to die in road accidents.
“This is why we are launching what we call ”Motorised Patrol” to increase the presence of our personnel on the roads.
“These patrol teams will be roaming the major roads, cautioning drivers against speeding and those trying to overtake wrongfully so that road accident can be reduced to the barest minimum in Anambra,’’ he said.
Kumapayi noted that most of the accidents occurred on the highways in the state which include Nteje-Onitsha Expressway, Awka-Onitsha Expressway and Upper-Iweka Roads.
The sector commander said the special patrol became necessary to reduce accident and save lives and property.
He advised motorists to drive with care and desist from speeding and all forms of dangerous driving.
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
