Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has denied receiving any letter from the state House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, which allegedly gave him a 48-hour ultimatum to present the 2025 budget. As the ultimatum expired on March 5, the state government, through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, informed the House that the letter had not been received by any relevant office in the state government.
In the letter, Danagogo clarified that Governor Fubara, while respecting the Supreme Court’s recent judgments, is awaiting the certified true copies of the decisions and will act in accordance with the rule of law. The state reassured that once the judgments are received, they will be implemented in the best interests of the people.
Tensions in the State:
Amidst these political developments, Niger Delta leader and traditional ruler, Asari Dokubo, has issued a warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, and the 27 Rivers State lawmakers about any potential moves to impeach Governor Fubara. Dokubo warned that such actions could destabilize the state, urging them to abandon any impeachment plans. His comments come amid the heightened political tension in Rivers, particularly after the Supreme Court’s ruling reinstating the defected lawmakers loyal to Wike.
The situation continues to unfold, with the state’s political balance in flux.
