“Fuel Scarcity: Civil Society Groups Demand Mele Kyari’s Resignation Within 7 Days”

Over 200 civil society groups, represented by the Coalition of Civil Society Groups Against Poverty in Africa (CoSGAPA), have called for the immediate resignation or sack of Engr Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL). The demand follows the severe fuel scarcity gripping the nation, causing untold suffering for Nigerians.

Addressing the press in Abuja, Mr. Aderonke Adebisi, the National Spokesperson of CoSGAPA, condemned what he described as a man-made scarcity orchestrated to undermine President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and tarnish the country’s image. He accused Kyari of incompetence and corruption, alleging that his actions worsened the fuel crisis and inflicted hardship on Nigerians.

The civil society groups announced plans to stage nationwide protests to press for Kyari’s resignation and demand a thorough investigation into key figures in the petroleum industry. They highlighted the economic repercussions of the scarcity, including skyrocketing prices of goods, transportation challenges, and hampered business operations.

In a stern message to President Tinubu, the groups urged immediate action to remove Kyari from office, citing his alleged corrupt practices and failure to uphold the administration’s objectives. They issued a 7-day ultimatum for Kyari to resign, warning of intensified protests if their demands are not met.

The spokesperson emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to Nigeria’s development and called for decisive measures to address the alleged corruption within the NNPC leadership.
