Professor Yakubu Muktar has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor, Yobe State University to replace former Vice Chancellor, Professor Musa Alabe who was sacked following what was described as education stagnation under his leadership of the institution despite the growing low education profile of the state.
A statement signed by Special Adviser on Media to Governor Ibrahim Gaidam, Abdullahi Bego said, the Yobe State Government will continue to do everything necessary to make the Yobe State University (YSU) rise to all possible heights of academic excellence.
The statement explained that, “This is the reason that His Excellency Governor Ibrahim Gaidam recently approved the appointment of a new vice chancellor for the institution, Professor Yakubu Mukhtar.
“Until the appointment of the new vice chancellor, His Excellency the governor was concerned that the University was not making as much progress as required, especially given the huge infrastructure and other forms of investment that the State Government was making in the University.
“His Excellency believes that in a highly competitive academic environment, the Yobe State University can do much better.
“In fact, the Yobe State Government had concluded arrangement to replace the former Vice Chancellor, Professor Musa Alabe before he quickly put up his resignation. His removal as VC was therefore clearly in the offing in pursuit of the objective of making the YSU greater.
“With a new management team now in place at the University, His Excellency Governor Gaidam is optimistic that the YSU will shine brighter and fulfil the dream of bringing qualitative and meaningful University education very close to all those who want it across Yobe State and beyond.
“His Excellency Governor Gaidam has given his assurances that the Yobe State Government, under his leadership, will keep giving every support that the YSU needs in the months and years ahead.”
