Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has directed the suspension from office of Doctors and nurses found to be absent from duty when he visited Government hospitals in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The Governor in continuation of his efforts at ensuring that all the hospitals across the state are in proper working conditions, and that all the Doctors and nurses are strictly doing their jobs, ,paid an unscheduled visit to Umaru Shehu Specialist Hospital in the state capital.

He openly displayed his displeasure with what he saw as no doctors were in the hospital, neither were there enough nurses in the various wards.

Professor Zulum said ,he was told that the hospital has over 138 nurses on Government pay roll but while going through the wards at the umaru shehu hospital, he discovered that only one nurse each in a ward including the accident and emergency ward making a total of about 10 nurses on duty in the whole hospital.
He said it was a pathetic situation with so many patient’s in the hospital waiting to receive treatment but no health personnel to attend to them.

Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum went on to the doctors quarters in an effort to see if doctors on call were in their houses but was further disappointed when he could not trace any one of them.
Our correspondent reports that, he has since directed the Chief Medical Director, CMD, of the Hospitals Management Board,, to serve all the hospital workers who were supposed to be on duty that night but were not available when he visited with suspension letters.

Governor Zulum said very soon Government is going to have a meeting with the hospitals management board on the nonchalant attitude of the hospital workers to bring back the lost glory of health care services in the state.

Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.

According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.

Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.

Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.

Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
