Zulum: Southern Borno And The Fallacy By Southern Borno Stakeholders Forum.

The recent unsubstantiated and ill-considered remarks by Ishaya Malgwi and Southern Borno Stakeholders Forum, alleging that Southern Borno has been marginalised under the leadership of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, are both regrettable and unfounded.
It appears evident that Mr Malgwi and his cohorts have, for some time, lost touch with the realities and developments within their constituency.

Contrary to their claims, Southern Borno has experienced unprecedented transformation in infrastructure, education, and healthcare during the six years of Governor Zulum’s administration.
In Biu Local Government Area, a number of significant projects have been successfully completed, including:

The complete overhaul and upgrade of Biu General Hospital to a specialist status, construction and commissioning of a world-class Eye and Dental Hospital, construction of mega schools in Miringa and Buratai, as well as the Biu Community School for Higher Islamic Studies, renovation and modernisation of the College of Education, Waka Biu.
Numerous other schools have been built or renovated across the area.
In terms of road infrastructure, the Zulum administration has completed key projects including the Waka–Biu Road, Baba Nakori Road, and Birma Jugol Road.
Similarly, in Hawul Local Government, numerous schools have been upgraded. These include: Government Secondary School, Sakwa, Community School, Ngwa.

Government Day Secondary Schools in Marama, Shaffa, Tashan Alade, Kwajjafa, and Kukurupu, including hard-to-reach areas. Additionally, a new General Hospital is under construction in Shaffa, alongside the establishment of Primary Healthcare Centres in Kwaya Bura and other communities.
In Bayo Local Government, notable developments include:
The construction of a new Technical School in Wuyo, renovation of schools in Briyel, Jauro Garga, and Fikahyel, construction of a new Local Government Secretariat and Government Lodge. Renovation and construction of the General Hospital in Briyel, along with Primary Healthcare Centres across various wards.

While in Shani Local Government, educational and health facilities have equally been improved in Kubo, Gasi, Walama, Shani Central, Bargu, and other wards.

These achievements represent only a fraction of the numerous developmental initiatives undertaken across Southern Borno. The scope of work is so extensive that listing every single project would be difficult without unintentionally omitting some.
On political inclussion, Governor Zulum’s administration has also ensured strong political inclusion of Southern Borno in governance. Notably:

Power has been formally transmitted to the Deputy Governor, Dr Umar Usman Kadafur, on three separate occasions—a first in the history of Borno State.

Key ministries such as Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement; Health; Transport; and Energy are headed by individuals from Southern Borno.

Under Governor Zulum’s leadership, the State Chairman of the ruling party also hails from Southern Borno—a significant milestone in the region’s political history.

Given these facts, Mr Malgwi’s abd indeed Southern Borno Stakeholders Forum’s remarks can only be described as either misinformed or intentionally misleading.
It is particularly surprising that Mr Malgwi, who recently invited Governor Zulum to an event organised by the same Southern Borno Stakeholders Forum, to honour sons and daughters of Southern Borno—and indeed, to recognise the Governor himself for his contributions to the region—has now reversed their stance with baseless allegations.

As elections approach, such tactics are not uncommon. However, the people of Southern Borno are fully aware of the developmental strides achieved under the leadership of Professor Babagana Umara Zulum and his Deputy, Dr Umar Usman Kadafur. Their commitment and contributions to the growth and progress of the region are deeply appreciated by the vast majority.
