Mr. Nwagu Emmanuel was arrested in Ikeja, Lagos, after falsely presenting himself as a Commissioner of Police, attempting to release a detained individual. Found in possession of a Walkie Talkie, Emmanuel was among 13 other individuals arrested across Lagos for various offenses.

Another notable arrest was that of a 62-year-old man, Ibrahim Bello, who impersonated a lawyer. He appeared in a Lagos court, dressed in a lawyer’s attire, intending to represent a case. However, his deception was uncovered when he failed to answer questions posed by the Nigerian Bar Association members, leading to his arrest.

Detailing the arrests, SP Benjamin Hudenyin, the Command spokesman, said Emmanuel introduced himself as a Commissioner of Police at around 4:40 pm on September 2, 2023. Though initially believed, subsequent questioning revealed his deceit. A search of his residence resulted in the discovery of senior police official ID cards, a Walkie Talkie, and police attire.

When questioned, Emmanuel confessed he was never a member of the Nigerian Police, claiming intoxication led him to the police station that day. He explained that the IDs were procured from a police acquaintance, ASP ABBA, for N2,000. The Walkie Talkie, he said, was from his church.

In contrast, Bello, presenting himself as an estate agent, explained he acquired the lawyer’s robe and wig for occasions when lawyers representing him in court didn’t have one. He also mentioned buying law books out of personal interest.
