A House of Representatives Aspirant for Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Toba Oloyede, has called for adequate and accurate data of people in local communities as one of the measures to address the growing insecurity in the country.
The aspirant who spoke in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital at an interactive session with Journalists, added that it would be an uphill task to identify strangers living with natives of local communities without taking cognizance of the data of the real people of the communities.
The Medical Doctor cum Information Technology Expert noted that traditional rulers and their chiefs are familiar with their people and it would be easy for them to identify perpetrators of evil who were never part of the communities in the beginning.
He attributed the rising insecurity to the growing number of aliens who migrated to towns and villages to settle down without being properly screened and questioned about the reasons for their migration.
Oloyede also explained that as home managers, parents and guardians also have a great role to play in curbing security challenges plaguing the country by having proper records of their children and wards.
The House of Representatives hopeful stressed the need to partner with village heads, local security outfits, police, civil defence in a way that would enable the use of data collected to stem the tide of emerging security challenges.
On his aspiration, Oloyede said if given the mandate his intention was to unite the four local government areas in his Federal Constituency by ensuring equity and fairness so that no local government area would feel cheated or neglected in the scheme of things, adding that his blueprint is people-centred, conceived in a way that would attract dividends of democracy to the people.
He applauded the APC leadership in the state for creating a level playing ground for all the aspirants, adding that his joining the race was to develop human capacity and health and provide social intervention and security for the people.
“I’m fully equipped be it financially or plans, and that is what makes me different from other aspirants that are around. I’m going around with part of my blueprint that is actually people-centred in a way that will bring dividends of democracy closer to the people.
“My blueprint is what will make people see the difference between the current government we have in Kwara State and previous governments. We are moving well and confident of winning it for ourselves and for the party (APC) in our constituency. In terms of plans, we are fully equipped to face the challenge and battle it out”, Oloyede said.
