A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has sentenced George Turnah, a former Special Adviser to ex-NDDC Managing Director Dan Abia, along with Ebis Orubebe and Uzorgor Chidebere, to six years in prison for fraud. The trio was convicted of charges related to obtaining money under false pretence, money laundering, and forgery.
Originally charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in May 2017, the defendants faced 23 counts concerning a fraud of N2,894,500,000. A statement from the EFCC detailed some of the charges, including receiving vast sums without going through a financial institution.
While they pled “not guilty,” evidence presented led to their convictions. Their sentences will commence from their arrest date. In addition to imprisonment, fines and significant restitution payments to the NDDC were ordered. George Turnah is notably linked as the political godson of former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.
