Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has announced plans to establish a new road transport authority to regulate and manage the entire transport system in the state.
The governor, who spoke during the flag-off of the executive session of the National Council of Transportation meeting in Kano, revealed that the new transport authority would accommodate all its transport system and would further help address the transportation challenges of the nation’s commercial centre.
Represented by his deputy, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the governor said the state had developed a transport policy, which after implementation will improve the sector performance and attract private investment.
“These efforts have helped tremendously in sanitizing traffic flow, improved commercial activities and accorded the metropolis a modern out look,” he said.
On his part, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, disclosed that the draft of National Transport policy is being reviewed by a cabinet committee headed by the vice president preparatory to its approval by the Federal Executive Council.
He went on to mention that the Federal Ministry of Transportation recently inaugurated an inter-ministerial steering committee with the private sector in order to provide leadership oversight for the execution of the Road Transport Transformation Programme.
