Katsina To Investigate Missing N445m

Katsina State Government has said it would investigate the disappearance of more than N445 million from the treasury of Mashi Local Government Council.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abdulkadir Zakka who disclosed this to newsmen in Katsina said records from various departments of the council revealed that the amount was diverted between 2013 and 2015.
The Commissioner said fake vouchers were used to divert the funds, disclosing that about N45 million was released for the purchase of grains, “which was later shared among few individuals.’’
He said 25 officials of the council were directed to vacate their offices pending the conclusion of the investigation by ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Speaking further, the commissioner said that any official found wanting would be sacked and prosecuted and that the investigation would soon be concluded and its findings be made public.
He warned local government workers to ensure transparency in the management of public funds.
