Kwara 2027: APC Candidates Get Full Backing Of Southern Monarchs
- Hinge Their Support On Gov AbdulRazaq’s Sterling Performance

The Kwara South Traditional Council has unanimously declared their resolve to support and mobilize for the victory of all the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
The traditional rulers hinged their solidarity on the sterling performance and achievements of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in the State, adding that the people of the State, particularly the southerners, have seen and felt the good impacts of the APC government and cannot afford to lose the fortune.
Speaking on behalf of the royal fathers that cut across Igbomina, Ibolo and Ekiti blocs, the Olupo of Ajase-ipo, Oba Ismail Yahya Alebiosu, said Kwara South traditional council declared its full support to the governorship candidacy of Engr. Yakubu Danladi Salihu of the APC from the Kwara North Senatorial District in the interest of equity, fairness and justice.
“And if you look at all the candidates of the APC, you can see that they mostly satisfy equity and fairness. That is the right path to go,” the Olupo said.
He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for acceding to the request of the traditional institution to support Kwara North to produce the next governor of Kwara State and for the Igbomina bloc to produce the next senator for Kwara South.
The party’s flag-bearers have been on a ‘thank you’ to the district since Saturday.
“By the special grace of God, I have been mandated by the traditional institution in this local government and in the entire senatorial district to say to you that the institution will give you 101% support,” Olupo told the APC candidates and supporters in his Palace, where the Irepodun Council of Chiefs were also present.
“I’ve also been directed by my colleagues to pray for your success. Because you have given us what we demanded. We are also going to do everything legally permissible to make sure that your party succeeds, come 2027. By the grace of God, I’ve been mandated to pray for your party and your candidates will win from top to bottom. They will win from top to bottom. This party will win from top to bottom by the special grace of God Almighty Allah,” the monarch prayed.
“We are once again grateful to Mr. President and our amiable Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for standing by the truth and for making sure that what is good for Mr. A is not forbidden for Mr. B. That is leadership par excellence. The Lord Almighty will continue to be with His Excellency and make His Excellency to continue to do things the right way and the way of God.
“All the traditional institution in Kwara South stand firmly by equity, justice, and fairness. I make bold to say that all of what we have today, they are true reflections of what you call equity, justice, and fairness.”
Oba Alebiosu appealed to all party members to remain calm, committed, and shun crisis for the party to succeed.
Elerin of Erin-Ile and Chairman Oyun Council of Chiefs, HRH Oba Jimoh Adebowale Adesoye (Adetona I), said all the monarchs in Oyun will mobilise their subjects to vote for APC, calling it a payback for the impactful leadership of Governor AbdulRazaq in the state.
Speaking through Onipe of Ipee land, Oba Muftau Adebayo Lawal Titiloye III, the Elerin said the community cannot hide their unalloyed support for the ruling party.
“You will not be put to shame and you will all succeed at the polls. The APC government has transformed this state. The party deserves to continue in power,” the monarch declared.
“We can assure you that all the traditional rulers and residents of Oyun are voting for your party, because we don’t have any other party than APC.”
The Olofa of Offa Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwye, who spoke in his palace in Offa, expressed similar sentiments, saying he is confident that SYD and other APC candidates will do well for the state and their respective constituencies.
“All these candidates are my children and they have my support. You will succeed,” the Olofa said.
State APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, appreciated the monarchies and people of Oyun, Offa and Irepodun for their tested loyalty and commitment to the ‘seamless’ party primaries.
Referencing the peaceful conduct of the APC primaries and the timely uploading of candidates on the INEC portal, the Chairman said APC is a disciplined party that continues to set a pace for its contemporaries.
“The purpose of our being here is to thank the people of Oyun LGA for standing by the party during the primaries which brought about the candidates we are unveiling now,” he said at the crowded town hall in Oyun.

The 2026 Constitution Amendment Bill has moved to the state level following its consideration by the National Assembly, paving the way for state legislatures to consider the proposed amendments.
The development comes amid renewed attention on constitutional reform and ongoing discussions over proposed changes to Nigeria’s governing framework.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has defended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over allegations surrounding borrowing by the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
House spokesperson Akin Rotimi Agbese, speaking in an interview with Channels Television, rejected claims that Wike had undertaken borrowing without the knowledge or approval of the National Assembly.
Agbese said the FCT minister could not independently create a sovereign borrowing obligation, stressing that public borrowing is subject to constitutional, statutory and administrative procedures.
“Wike has committed no infraction in borrowings. There is no basis for the allegation that he has been borrowing money behind the back of the National Assembly,” Agbese said.
He explained that borrowing to finance infrastructure was not unlawful where the required approvals and procedures had been followed.
“Borrowing for infrastructure development is not unlawful in itself, provided the prescribed approvals and procedures are followed,” he added.
The House spokesperson further argued that an increase in the FCT’s debt profile should not automatically be interpreted as evidence of illegal borrowing, citing the scale of infrastructure projects being undertaken in Abuja under Wike.
According to Agbese, the key issue is whether the appropriate approvals were obtained for specific borrowing transactions, rather than simply whether the FCT’s overall debt profile has increased.
The comments come as scrutiny continues over public borrowing, infrastructure financing and the legal procedures governing government debt at both the federal and sub-national levels.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its intention to contest the 2027 presidential election despite the decision of Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The party said Wike’s decision was personal and did not alter its position to participate in the presidential election with its candidate, Senator Sandy Onor. PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, made the clarification on Wednesday.
According to the party, a recent conversation between Wike and Onor should not be interpreted as a political negotiation between the minister and the PDP.
“He told Nigerians that Sandy is his friend. And they only had a friendly discussion within the umbrella of friendship. So, that is just a personal discussion between him and his friend,” Mohammed said.
He added that Wike’s support for Tinubu did not prevent the PDP from fielding candidates for the presidential, governorship and legislative elections.
Wike had earlier clarified that his support in 2027 was specifically for Tinubu’s presidential re-election and did not amount to an agreement that the PDP would withdraw from other electoral contests. He also said he never promised that the PDP would abandon its candidates for governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections.
“I said I will support the President from day one. I never told Mr President I will join APC,” Wike said.
The minister also maintained that his proposed Rainbow Coalition was not an arrangement with the All Progressives Congress (APC), but rather a platform through which politicians from different parties could mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election.
The issue has generated disagreement with some APC governors, who have expressed concern about a political arrangement that could affect the party’s candidates at other levels.
APC Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman, Hope Uzodinma, said the governors would not support any alliance or arrangement that could weaken the APC or adversely affect its candidates.
Meanwhile, APC presidential campaign council spokesperson Ima Niboro has urged Wike and APC governors to end their public exchanges and concentrate on political mobilisation.
“When I said tone down the rhetoric, I do not mean stop working. Stop talking, go and work,” Niboro said.
He urged political leaders to strengthen their grassroots structures and engage directly with voters rather than continue exchanging statements in the media.
“All this shouting is not taking anybody anywhere. Go and work. Go and establish your authority on your political base,” he said.
