Kwara: 28-year-old man jailed six months for stealing yams

One Abubakar Banni, arraigned before a Kwara state Magistrate Court sitting in Kaiama by the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for stealing yams has been sentenced to six months imprisonment.

The Command’s spokesman, Babawale Zaid Afolabi, said the convict, aged 28, is a Fulani man from Tenebo village in Kaiama, who was said to have been stealing yams in the farm almost on daily basis.

The image maker, in a statement made available to the newsmen in llorin, said: “The man was arrested on August 30, 2021 at about 6:00 hours and brought to the NSCDC office, Kaiama Division, by one Ismaila Ebbo Mohammed. According to the complainant, the Fulani man has been stealing their yams in the farm on daily basis.

“He confessed to have committed the crime and immediately the Commandant, NSCDC Kwara state Command, CC.Makinde Iskil Ayinla, gave the directive that he should be charged to court.

“Abubakar having pleaded guilty of the crime in court, Magistrate Yusuf Kide subsequently convicted and sentenced him to six months for criminal trespass and theft. He is to serve the jail term at New Bussa Correctional Service in Niger State.”
