Kwara CNPP Applauds Conduct Of LG Poll, Sets Agenda For Chairmen – Elect

The Congress of Nigeria’s Political Parties (CNPP), Kwara state chapter has described the last Saturday’s local government elections in the state as peaceful, free and fair.
This is just as it called on the newly elected council chairmen in the state to extend hands of fellowship to those who lost out in the poll.
Candidates of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) won the chairmanship elections in all the 16 local government areas in the state.
The CNPP also charged the chairmen and councilors – elect to make the payment of backlog of salary arrears owed most of the council workers in the state their priority.
It made the call in a statement jointly issued by its chairman, Alhaji Adebayo Lawal and secretary, Prince Olufemi Adeleke.
The congress which congratulated the chairmen and councilors – elect, expressed satisfaction with the successful conduct of the polls and called on those who lost out to take heart.
It added: ‘‘Reports from the field in the various polling units, wards and local governments confirmed the fact that voting went smoothly with little hitches in few places.”
“Though, some isolated skirmishes were reported from two or three spots before and during the election, the conduct was generally peaceful and in total compliance with the provisions of the electoral act.
“While we call on the losers to take heart as there is always another day to throw another challenge, we call on the winners to exhibit the spirit of inclusiveness and accommodate some members of the opposing parties in their administration.
“Now that we have truly elected men in our various local governments, we congratulate them and urge them to look seriously into the backlog of salaries and entitlements being owed workers and retirees at the local government level for their immediate settlement.”
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
