Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has advocated more opportunities for women in Nigeria to participate in politics saying that African women deserve more space in political environment.

Governor Ahmed made the call when he received the newly elected officials of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in Kwara State, led by its Chairperson, Barrister Salmat Muhammed at the Government House, Ilorin.

He said: “Women have demonstrated that they can deliver and work better than men in some capacities. So, residual superstitious belief against African women must be checked as productivity requires collective efforts.”

According to the governor, “productivity means that all hands must be on deck. Everybody has a role to play and that necessarily shapes the role that individuals will play. FIDA serves a dual role of not only guaranteeing rights of women but most importantly, it serves as a platform for recognizing human capital development.”

Governor Ahmed called on individuals and groups to key into the quiet agricultural revolution going on across the country saying that “President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s policy on agricultural sector had moved agriculture from subsistence to commercial level in the country.”

He urged professional bodies, individuals and other entities willing to go into agric-business to approach the State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the State Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Bureau for required funding from the Central Bank’s loan for agriculture.

Speaking earlier, the Chairperson of Kwara FIDA, Barrister Salmat Muhammed had explained that the federation had over the years supported education of indigent students and assisted women and children with medical support.

She commended Governor Ahmed for partnering with the association and solicited more collaboration.
