A member of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Abolarin Ganiyu Gabriel, has petitioned the state Commissioner of Police, Tuesday Assayomo, over an alleged attempt to disrupt the just concluded delegates’ congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Isapa Ward of Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.

The petition titled “Complaints Against Some Persons”, was dated May 18, 2022 and addressed to the police chief.

The lawmaker claimed that some Individuals allegedly violently forced an Isapa-bound bus conveying APC members to the congress to stop and attacked them.

It was alleged that a former Kwara South Senator masterminded the alleged attempted disruption of the exercise by allegedly hiring some thugs who reportedly barricaded the road leading to Isapa community.

In a petition transmitted to the state Police Commissioner, the Ekiti Constituency lawmaker said that one Segun Afolabi miraculously escaped gunshot fired at him by unidentified armed gang while returning to Isapa from Osi where he had gone to procure food for party members.

The petition alleged that the assault on APC members was carried out in the presence of security personnel devoid of any action to either stop the attack or arrest any of the suspects.

Hon. Abolarin recalled in the petition that he had earlier alerted the Commissioner of Police on the likelihood of breach of peace and security during the congress with his request for adequate protection of people in Isapa and Ekiti local government area.

The petition partly read, “While the Kwara State government bus known as ‘Soludero’ was conveying some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ilorin to Isapa for the ongoing congresses of the party to elect Local Government Area, State and National Delegates, at about 2pm on May 17, 2022, some suspected thugs violently forced the bus to stop and attacked all APC members in the bus.

“At about 6pm after the attack, the same set of people also attacked and shot gun at one Segun Afolabi on his way back from Osi to Isapa where he went to get food for party members and later went ahead to cause mayhem and disturb public peace in Isapa and all these were done in the presence of Police and other security personnel who neither took any action to forestall the occurrence of the incident nor made any arrest on any of the suspects.

“In my effort to forestall the occurrence of this incident and based on the privileged and classified information, I had earlier written a letter to the Commisioner of Police as a security alert” on May 12, 2022.”
