By Stephen Olufemi Oni, Ilorin

Despite Kwara state Government’s efforts to rid the state, particularly Ilorin the capital city, of illegal dump sites, another shocking discovery of an illegal dump site has been made at Itakudima, Zuban Area, in Ilorin West Local Government Area with huge volumes of wastes.

The discovery was made, upon a tip off, by the state Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Remilekun Banigbe, during an inspection visit to the area as part of efforts to curtail illegal dump sites in the state.

The Commissioner, who was accompanied on the visit by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Dupe Adekeye, noted that the wastes had for long constituted a big health threat to the people living in the area.

Assuring the people of the area of government’s prompt intervention in evacuating the refuse, Banigbe urged the people of the state to always be proactive in promptly reporting any illegal dump site in their areas to the relevant government agencies for their own good.

A resident of the community, Alfa Issa Kawu, told the Commissioner that the waste was mounting gradually until it became a heap, adding that if not promptly attended to, it would eventually get out of control.

According to him, the state government’s plan to make the illegal dump site place a market square would be fully realise.

Alfa Kawu had earlier lauded Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his relentless efforts at making the state a better place to live and prayed for the success of his administration.
