Kwara: NSCDC arrests two butchers for alleged sale of contaminated meat

The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested

Two butchers, Bashiru Bala Zuru and Nawali Bala have been arrested for alleged attempt to sell contaminated and unhealthy cow meat to unsuspecting members of the public.

A statement by the spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Babawale Zaid Afolabi, said the two suspects were arrested in Patigi, Patigi local government area of Kwara state.

The statement added: “Around 0850hrs on Saturday, 18/09/2021 our men from Patigi divisional headquarters, who were acting on a tip off arrested one Nawali Bala a native of Okoloke, Kogi State. Bala was caught with some contaminated cow meat neatly packed inside polythene bags.

“During the interrogation, Bala confessed that the cow meat was given to him by Dantani Jayewu, now at large, who lives in Okoloke, Kogi State.

“Further checks at the Ministry of Environment and Public Health confirmed that the cow meat was unhealthy for human consumption.

“The suspects will be charged to court on completion of investigations.”
