Kwara Speaker seeks media, legislature synergy
…rallies stakeholders’ support for Kwara state Transit Security Management Scheme
By Steve Oni, Ilorin
The Speaker, Kwara state House of Assembly, Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, has called for stronger synergy between the legislature and the media, noting that the duo are the beauty of democracy.
The Speaker, who said this in Ilorin during a courtesy visit on him by the National President, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Chief Chris Isiguzor, urged the media to engage the government in corrective engagements and criticisms, noting that no system is perfect.
He said: “We are not perfect, let us continue to correct and not condemn each other. We can both be wrong, let us call ourselves to order in a constructive manner for the greater good of the people.
“As watchdog of the executive arm of government, we will do thorough oversight on public projects, just like we thoroughly scrutinised the 2020 budget and we will carry the media along in doing that.”
The Speaker commended the Kwara state Council of NUJ for its uprightness, professionalism and promotion of good governance in the state.
The NUJ President, earlier in his remarks, had expressed his pleasure in being with the Speaker as part of his nationwide visits to State Councils, to know how Journalists are faring in their work places.
“With the trend in our country, we are concerned about safety and security of Journalists, our visit was part of efforts to embolden and encourage them not to lose hope in the polity but to continue being the conscience of the society,” Isiguzor said.
“The significance of legislature and media in democratic advancement cannot be overemphasized, the two are Siamese twins and that is why it is expedient to watch each other’s back. We are currently mobilizing state legislators to garner support for Journalism Enhancement Bill, for its domestication when it is eventually passed into law by the National Assembly”, he added.
Meanwhile, as part of proactive measures by the Kwara state government to ensure security of lives and property, the Speaker has called for stakeholders’ support for the Kwara state Transit Security Management Scheme.
Speaking at the official unveiling of the scheme today in Ilorin, the State capital, Danladi said the present government understands what the security atmosphere around Kwara portends and that’s why it would continue to support measures to ensure that the relative peace in the state is sustained.
He enjoined commercial cab drivers, motorcyclists and tricyclists to be safety conscious, key in and enrol into the system for the good and security of all.

Pius Akutah’s Alleged Fraud at Nigerian Shippers Council Uncovered
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
