Outgoing Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University, Malete, Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, has cautioned against rising cases of insecurity in the country. In particular, he admonished the ruling class to put aside politics, parochial jingoism and all forms of sentiment to causing division in the country.
Prof. Na’Allah spoke at the weekend while addressing journalists at a valedictory press conference in Ilorin, the state capital, adding that it is time for Nigerians to show love for this nation and ensure oneness and unity always.
According to him ” Nigerians should put aside their parochialism, ethnic division and start thinking about the unity of the country, the world is watching us, we should not create chaos, we should avoid sentiment. We should love this country, it belongs to all of us”
The Vice Chancellor disclosed that the University recently secured a grant of N21m from the federal government to create a drone for the surveillance of the country’s oil pipelines to curb vandalism.
He described the University as the first institution in the country to create such technology for that purpose, pointing out that the University will work with the Nigeria Airforce and Federal Government to ensure that the project achieve the desired objective.
Prof. Na’Allah noted that in the last ten years, none of the programmes created by the university has become problematic despite the financial challenges, while the institution has never lost any accreditation showing that the university maintained the recommended standard of the National University Commission.
“We have never missed any accreditation in the last 10 years of the establishment of this institution. All the programmes presented before NUC were accredited . This is a great achievement to be celebrated”, the VC said.
He added that the university was established as a solution provider to the myriad of problems confronting the nation, pointing out that this is the strategy adopted by the Institution and it is paying off, while the students were well trained to be employers of labour.
“At the Kwara state University, our students are always ahead to proffer solutions to problems facing the country, especially in the areas of unemployment. The internship experience they have right from 100-500 levels prepared them to be employers of labour “, Prof. Na’Allah said further.
Professor Na’Allah who is now the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, explained that KWASU had designed a template or system where it is recruiting products of the institution with excellent academic degrees, especially, the first class students as Assistant lecturers .
