Lassa fever: Council Boss Warns Against Eating Rats
By Sule Aliyu, Bauchi
People in Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State have been warned to desist from eating or interacting with rats.
The Chairman of the Local Government Council, Dauda Adamu Maimako who gave the warning during an interactive session with traditional rulers, reminded the people about the two cases of Lassa fever recently found in Bar Kudu village of the area.
Maimako said that though the two cases of Lassa fever were successfully dealt with by medical and health personnel, however reminded the people about the need to restrain from interacting with rats or eating the meat.
A statement by the LG information officer, Gwamna James weekend, said households in the area have been advised to protect their children and prevent them from going out to hunt for rat in the bush, and urged traditional rulers to safe guard their families from eating edible food poison by rat farces.
The council chairman while cautioning people against the danger of exposure to rats in their rooms, explained that those who contacted Lassa fever have the high risk of spreading it to others.
In another development, the Local Government chairman charged the people of Bogoro to equip themselves with the permanent voter card to enable them vote in the forthcoming general elections.
The chairman, who gave the charge while addressing traditional rulers at village head palaces of Boi, Bogoro and Lusa, said that three registration centres have been created in the respective village areas as against going to local government headquarters to facilitate easy registration.
Alhaji Dauda Adamu Mainako directed the traditional rulers to go house to house to make sure those who have reach the age of eighteen and those who for any reason didn’t register in previous years get to the nearest voters registration centre for the exercise.
According to him, the voter registration exercise offer the people of Bogoro Local Government Area to address the gross inefficiencies noted in the past in the number of votes in the area.
He also advised those who have the interest of deciding the future of Bogoro to get involved in mobilizing people in their wards and units to register to obtain the voter cards.
Mainako however pointed out that those who refuse to register now will regret it later as the voter card is not meant only for voting, as he enjoined people in the villages of Boi, Bogoro and Lusa not to give excuses for not going out to register.
In their separate speeches the village heads of Boi, Mal Bala Ibrahim Likita; and Mal. Nuhu Tafida of Bogoro hailed the chairman for displaying honesty and sincerity in making sure that Bogoro is lifted up to nest facets of development
The traditional rulers promised that they will get into action to mobilize those who have not obtain their voter card to do so, saying they were proud of the chairman, and urged him to continue to extol the virtues and strength of honesty.
