The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria ( TUC) has conferred Outstanding Pro- labour Award on Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya in recognition of his exceptional leadership and commitment to promoting decent work agenda.

The award was presented to the Governor during the TUC’s maiden Award Night and Dinner which took place at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

According to the National President of TUC, Comrade Festus Osifo, Governor Inuwa was chosen for the award among the 36 states for his administration’s prompt payment of workers’ salaries and pensions, and clearing of backlog of gratuities owed retirees by previous administrations in his state as well as his outstanding contributions towards the promotion of workers rights and welfare.

The Governor was represented at the event by his Deputy, Dr Mannasah Daniel Jatau.

Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Dr. Manassah Jatau appreciate the leadership of TUC for the recognition which he described as a challenge to do more.

He said, ” giving an award is like throwing a challenge; therefore all those who received awards today have been challenged to do more work. We ahave accepted the challenge to live up to the expectations of the TUC and workers in general”.

“Our doors shall always be open to the TUC, and we shall always give our support to the TUC and workers in order to provide a conducive working environment for productivity and efficiency in service delivery”.

” Our’s is a pro- workers’ government. We have always placed the welfare and well-being of Gombe State workers at the core of our developmental agenda, including the reform of the civil service, prompt payment of salaries and pensions as well clearing the backlog of pensions and gratuities owed the state’s retirees as attested to by TUC”.

The event was graced by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, Governors of Edo, Bauchi, Rivers and Nasarawa States who were represented, Group Managing Director of NNPCL, Mele Kolo Kyari, Emir of Dass, doyens of the organized labour, diplomats, captains of industry among others.

The Gombe delegation at the event include Commissioners of Finance and Economic Development, and Trade, Industry and Tourism; Malam Muhammad Gambo Magaji and Alh. Nasiru Muhammad Aliyu respectively; Special Adviser on Budget Planning and Development Partner Coordination, Dr Ishiyaku Mohammed; Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed kasimu Abdullahi among others.

Delta State University (Delsu) Abraka, at the weekend, graduated 4855 students for the 2021/2022 academic session ranging from postgraduate degrees, first degrees, and Diploma certificates for the 2021/2023 Academic Session.

The Vice Chancellor of Delta State University Abraka, Prof Andy Egwunyenga, disclosed at the 15th convocation ceremony of the university held at the university auditorium hall.

According to him, Postgraduate degree Graduands are 596, First degree- 3843, and Diplomas- 416.

In his welcome speech, he said, “I consider the Convocation Ceremony not only as a final rite but also as a beginning of another. Today’s graduands are graduating into endeavors that will open other new beginnings.

“Our University has consistently kept faith with its mandate of producing quality graduates who will contribute to nation-building and advance the cause of humanity globally.”

Prof Egwunyenga posited that the quantity and quality of graduates produced by our university over the years attest to our capacity to live up to the vision of our founding fathers.

“I enjoin us all not to rest on our oars as the most advanced University, is a work in progress and the University and Delta State University, Abraka, is no exception.

“I do congratulate all of us, Staff and students, on the successes we have recorded in approximating the ideals upon which our University is founded. Though we have achieved giant strides, there is still a lot of work to be done.”
