Man faces trial for allegedly torching police station.

A 27-year-old man, Wasiu Akingbola, was brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Ogba, Lagos State, for allegedly attacking a police officer and setting ablaze a police station.

Facing charges that include assault, arson, inflicting bodily harm, and affiliation with a secret cult, Akingbola is accused of collaborating with approximately 15 members of the Supreme Eiye Confraternity in the assault on the Oregun Police Post at 3am on May 29, 2023.

Inspector Kokoye Olusegun, the police prosecutor, stated that Akingbola and the gang demanded the release of Inspector Kabiru. When informed that Kabiru wasn’t at the station, they assaulted the officer on duty, ignited the station, and fled. Akingbola was later identified and arrested at the Alausa Police Station regarding another issue.

The crimes Akingbola is charged with violate multiple sections of the 2015 Criminal Law of Lagos State. The case has been postponed to September 25, 2023, awaiting advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.
