The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has cautioned Federal Capital Territory Administration employees to follow the public service code of conduct, emphasizing the importance of asset declaration. Non-compliance can lead to penalties.
Suleiman Usman, the State Director of FCT CCB, informed many civil servants on Thursday in Abuja that conducting personal business during work hours is illegal and actionable.
Usman stated, “This campaign aims to educate FCT Administration employees on asset declaration’s significance and the public officers’ expected behavior. Our Bureau has a dedicated committee for oversight, emphasizing that civil servants shouldn’t directly manage private ventures.”
He urged public servants to declare their assets promptly and correctly to maintain transparency and accountability, as they serve on behalf of the public. Usman expressed concern over many civil servants being unaware of specific duties and expectations, inadvertently allowing irregularities.
He criticized public servants running personal businesses during office hours, stressing the CCB’s commitment to act against any reported and verified breaches of this rule.
Dr. Jummai Ahmadu, FCTA’s acting Director of Reform Coordination and Service Improvement, remarked that such educational campaigns by the bureau are routine nationwide to remind civil servants about the importance of asset declaration.
