Human rights activist Femi Falana has called on the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, to apologize and resign in the wake of the N585 million scandal. Falana criticized Edu’s response to the scandal, describing it as an insult to the sensibilities of Nigerians. Leaked documents revealed Edu’s alleged directive to pay N585.18 million into a private account, which the Accountant-General of the Federation rejected. Edu, in her response, claimed due process was followed, and the allegations aimed to tarnish her image. Falana deemed Edu’s response arrogant and urged her to apologize and step down, citing violations of public service rules and anti-corruption laws.
