In a shocking turn of events, Daniel Ogar Ogazi, a legislator in Nasarawa State, has been embroiled in a certificate forgery scandal that threatens to derail his political career. Ogazi, who has served as a lawmaker for eight years, was exposed by a news magazine, sending shockwaves throughout the state.

The revelation has drawn comparisons to a similar incident involving former House of Representatives Speaker, Salisu Buhari, whose forged credentials led to his resignation and subsequent conviction for forgery. Buhari’s downfall served as a precedent for cases of certificate forgery in Nigeria’s democratic dispensation since 1999.

Ogazi’s claims of attending Adekunle Ajasin University, as stated in his resume submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, have been refuted by the institution itself. The university categorically denied his enrollment in the Department of Computer Science, further fueling suspicions of his deceitful actions.

The implications of allowing a person accused of falsifying records and academic impropriety to aspire to the prestigious position of the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly are significant.

Governor Sule’s administration, which places a strong emphasis on integrity, must prioritize upholding moral values by preventing another dishonest individual from assuming such a role.

Recall that the Supreme Court’s recent nullification of Bayelsa State Governor-elect David Lyon’s election due to false information provided by his Deputy Governor-elect, Senator Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, underscores the importance of maintaining a clean political process. The citizens of Nasarawa State deserve leaders who prioritize the public interest over personal gain.

The current situation with Daniel Ogar Ogazi reflects a disturbing desperation for power and influence at any cost. Allowing him to proceed unchecked would not only compromise the moral compass of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly but also cast doubt on the institution’s credibility and values.

It is imperative that swift action be taken to investigate Daniel Ogar Ogazi and hold him accountable before he undermines the integrity of the legislative body. Failure to address this issue may lead to a deterioration of the political process, where power becomes a tool for self-serving interests, eroding morality and trust in the state.

Political parties also bear responsibility in this matter. They must ensure that candidates go through rigorous internal screenings to uphold their integrity before presenting them to the public for elections. This failure on the part of Ogazi’s political party raises concerns about their commitment to the anti-corruption thrust espoused by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The people of Nasarawa State are hopeful that appropriate actions will be taken to preserve the sanctity of the political system and maintain a healthy working relationship between the executive and legislative branches. Upholding morality and transparency in governance is crucial for the state’s progress and the welfare of its citizens.
