NDE trains 50 women in Kano on spices production, packaging
The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), on Tuesday commenced a three-day training of 50 unemployed women on spices production and modern packaging in Kano State.
Mr Iliyasu Ahmed, the NDE’s Coordinator in Kano said the training was part of Federal Government’s efforts to tackle unemployment in the country.
According to him, at the end of the training, NDE will empower 35 of the best participants to enable them establish their own businesses.
Ahmed said that the trainees would be introduced to some leaves and herbs and how to make them into spices and condiments.
The NDE boss said that the participants would also be taught how to prepare and package ginger, black pepper, cloves and also how to preserve onion and tomatoes among other things.
“The women would be introduced to some of the leaves and herbs that when blended together, give flavour to your soups and stews to make them taste good.
“Like you know, NDE is always researching on ways and means of assisting our teaming unemployed youths to be productive, self reliant and take them out of poverty.
“This is also part of the Federal Government’s way of improving our home made products, which is aimed at reducing importation of things we have at home in abundance
“By doing so, we are also increasing our export capacity to an extent that we can compete with other countries in terms of exportation of such spices.
“The training of these young women, who are mostly married will give them the opportunity to learn how to be self reliant, assist their families and also keep their husbands from eating in restaurants.”
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to our correspondent commended the Federal Government and NDE for the gesture, and pledged to make proper use of the experience they acquire.
One of the beneficiaries, Fatima Isa said the training was a good development because she had been waiting for such opportunity.
She urged other participants to focus on the training to enable them become employers of labour.
Shafa’atu Uba, another participant said such training would assist them in maintaining their homes and keeping their husbands by preparing different delicacies for them.
