NGO Trains 60 Journalists, CSOs in Bauchi

An NGO, Evidence for Action (E4A) Mamaye Project, has trained 60 journalists and members of Civil Society Organizations in Bauchi state on the use of Specific Measurable Accuracy Reliability and time bound (SMART) approach for developing future work plans to address challenges in Maternal Neo Natal Child Health (MNCH) in the state.
The State Coordinator of E4A Mamaye project Mr. Gideon Poki who stated this at the end of the two days training held at Command Guest In Bauchi said the objective of the training was to equip and sharpen the skills of the three sub-committees that made up BaSAM in the art of developing work plan that would seek to address challenges surrounding Maternal and Neo-natal child health (MNCH) in line with best practice and evidence based.
He commended participants for the kind enthusiasm exhibited during the training, urging them to use the knowledge and the approaches in the SMART to reduce the death of mother and children in the state.
The lead consultant of the training, Mr. Timi Owolabi said he was impressing with the performance of the participants and also called on them to always apply the SMART approach in developing future work plan for the E4A Mamaye Project. Mr. Owolabi added that “I have learnt a great from you too in the course of facilitating this training”.
One of the participant Mr. Paul Orude Bauci state Correspondent of the Sun Newspaper told national trail shortly after the program that the training program has impacted positively and has “broaden my horizon on the rudiments in the development of a standard work plan in line with global best practice”.
The training drew participants from the Advocacy, Evidence and Knowledge Management Sub-committees that has the participation of CSOs, Media, Academia and relevant MDAs that made BaSAM.
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
