The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed his administration’s willingness to partner with the State of Israel in the fields of agriculture and security for the nation’s capital, Abuja.
During a courtesy visit by the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Michael Freeman, Wike highlighted the favorable climate for agriculture in the FCT and revealed plans to establish farms in the territory to provide employment opportunities for youth.
Wike assured the ambassador of the FCTA’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for legitimate business activities in the region.
Regarding security, Wike acknowledged the security challenges faced by the FCT but expressed openness to partnerships with Israel to enhance security measures in the capital city.
In response to recent newspaper publications listing embassies, high commissions, and government organizations in default of ground rent payments, Wike clarified that the government’s actions were aimed at improving internally generated revenue in the FCT and were not intended to embarrass any entity.
The Israeli Ambassador, Michael Freeman, affirmed the embassy’s commitment to complying with existing rules and regulations in the FCT. He also mentioned an ongoing capacity-building project for young Nigerian entrepreneurs and innovators, emphasizing the importance of mentorship and funding for job creation and economic growth.
