Rafsanjani Calls for an Explanation from Wike Regarding the Dismissal of Heads of FCT Agencies”

Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, the Head of Transparency International (Nigeria) and Executive Director of the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), has called upon Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to provide a clear rationale for the abrupt dismissal of the heads of 21 government agencies.

During an interview with Vanguard in Abuja on Thursday, Rafsanjani emphasized the importance of the Minister elucidating the grounds for his decision as a means of preserving public confidence and promoting transparency.

Rafsanjani stated, “If FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, genuinely based his decision on the expiration of these agency heads’ tenures, then such actions would be both constitutional and morally defensible.”

Nevertheless, he also raised concerns about potential hidden motives behind Wike’s actions, cautioning, “However, if it is revealed that Wike’s actions were driven by self-interest or a desire to appoint individuals aligned with his political agenda, then such actions could be viewed as inappropriate and unjust.”

Rafsanjani stressed the importance of a comprehensive explanation from Wike, asserting, “Governor Wike must transparently communicate the underlying reasons for this mass dismissal to the Nigerian public. Providing a detailed explanation is crucial for addressing concerns and ensuring accountability in the decision-making process.”
