Nigerian army upscales research, development efforts for operational effectiveness


The Nigeria Army (NA) has increased its efforts towards sustaining and improving on Research and Development (R&D) for enhancement of its operational effectiveness.

The Chief of Transformation and Innovation (Army), Maj.-Gen. Charles Ofoche, disclosed this at the Research and Development Focal Point Officers’ Conference 2021 organised by the Department of Army Transformation and Innovation (DATI) on Tuesday, in Abuja.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja

Ofoche stated that no military anywhere in the world had made meaningful progress without investing on research and development.

He said that DATI which had the statutory responsibility of coordinating research and development efforts in the Nigerian army would not relent in its efforts in achieving its mandate in pursuant of the vision of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

Ofoche expressed appreciation to the COAS, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, for providing the logistics for the conference to take place.

A Guest Speaker at the seminar, Dr Henry Nzekwu, stated that the military was an integral player in advancing research and development.
He added that other agencies of government were working assiduously to update their capabilities in software development, such as encrypted communications, secured networks amongst others.
