“Nigerian Navy Nabs Two Suspected Pipeline Vandals in Asugbo Creek, Delta State”
By Milcah Tanimu
In a significant operation aimed at curbing pipeline vandalism in the region, the Nigerian Navy, operating in Delta State, has successfully apprehended two individuals suspected of being involved in pipeline vandalism. The incident occurred in the Asugbo Creek area, situated in Warri South Local Government Area.
The arrest was carried out on a Sunday by a vigilant naval patrol team in collaboration with personnel from Ocean Marine Solution, a private surveillance firm. The joint team had embarked on a routine patrol when they stumbled upon a startling discovery—an extensively vandalized and leaking pipeline within the vicinity.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the patrol team intensified its investigation and soon uncovered an illegal connection to the damaged pipeline. This discovery further heightened their concerns.
As the team probed the area more thoroughly, they detected the presence of three individuals traveling in a canoe, approximately 20 meters away from the site of the vandalized pipeline. Upon noticing the naval operatives, the three suspects attempted to flee the scene. However, the swift and coordinated efforts of the security personnel led to the apprehension of two of the fleeing suspects, while the third managed to escape.
Subsequently, the arrested individuals were transported to the Nigerian Navy Ship Delta for detailed interrogation and further investigation. At this stage, they were unable to provide a convincing explanation regarding the reasons for their attempted escape or the whereabouts of the third individual who evaded capture. Therefore, a comprehensive investigation was deemed necessary to ascertain those responsible for the illicit connection to the oil pipeline along Asugbo Creek.
In line with the commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice prevails, the two apprehended suspects were handed over to the Divisional Officer of the Warri South Division under the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The Chief Superintendent of Corps, Victor Igbinoba, will oversee further investigations and the necessary legal procedures.
The Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship Delta, Commodore Chindo Yahaya, who played a key role in the operation, emphasized that no leniency would be shown to anyone involved in crude oil theft or any form of criminal activity within the Delta creeks. He stressed that the Nigerian Navy’s resolve to combat oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the region remained unwavering, in accordance with the Chief of the Naval Staff Strategic Directive 2023-6.
This successful operation represents a significant step in the ongoing efforts to safeguard critical infrastructure and address the menace of pipeline vandalism in Delta State. The Nigerian Navy’s dedication to maintaining security and order in the region demonstrates the government’s commitment to protecting valuable national assets and maintaining a safe environment for the citizens.

Pius Akutah’s Alleged Fraud at Nigerian Shippers Council Uncovered
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
