NiMet Management Retreat Concludes with Optimistic Outlook

The three-day management retreat organized by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) concluded on January 10, 2024, in Abuja, with Director General and CEO Charles Anosike expressing confidence in the agency’s future. The retreat brought together directors, general managers, deputy general managers, and senior staff to discuss work plans, revenue opportunities, and new initiatives for 2024. Anosike praised the talent and enthusiasm displayed during the retreat, assuring the staff that their collective efforts would contribute to fulfilling President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda. Emphasizing the importance of teamwork, he encouraged renewed dedication to serving stakeholders and meeting expectations. Anosike highlighted upcoming initiatives, including the Seasonal Climate Prediction, and pledged management’s commitment to addressing internal issues raised during the retreat, prioritizing mentorship, talent management, and sustained career development for meteorologists. Participants were urged to share the insights gained with their teams to enhance NiMet’s operations. The retreat was deemed successful, with a focus on placing NiMet’s interests above personal interests and promoting teamwork. Directors and participants expressed satisfaction with the learnings that will positively impact the agency’s work. The retreat provided new directors with insights into NiMet’s operations, fostering a collaborative and informed approach to achieving organizational goals. The Director of Research and Training encouraged participants to disseminate knowledge gained during the retreat, ensuring a cohesive understanding of NiMet’s new direction among all staff.
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
