NIWA Director Expresses Condolences Over Boat Mishaps in Niger and Adamawa States

George Moghalu, the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has expressed deep sadness over the recent boat mishaps that occurred in Niger and Adamawa states, resulting in the loss of lives.

In a statement, Moghalu described the incidents as tragic and unfortunate. On September 10, a boat carrying over 100 passengers capsized in the Gbajibo community of Mokwa LGA in Niger state, resulting in the tragic loss of 24 lives. In a separate incident, a boat mishap in Njuwa Lake in Yola South LGA, Adamawa state, claimed the lives of 15 out of 23 people on board.

Moghalu extended his condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives and offered prayers for the swift recovery of those who sustained injuries in the accidents.

He also commended the efforts of the first responders, local divers, and the police marine unit for their life-saving work at the scenes of both incidents.

The NIWA Director’s heartfelt sympathies reflect the collective sorrow felt by the organization and its staff over these unfortunate events.
