Shell Petroleum Development Company-operated joint venture, along with Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd, TotalEnergies, and NAOC, has launched the “Vision First Initiative” as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility. The initiative aims to provide free eye care services, including surgeries, in Bayelsa and Rivers states. The programme, which is an extension of SPDC’s Health-in-Motion medical outreach, focuses on promoting healthy eye-care practices and preventing visual impairment and childhood blindness. The community-based eye care services were conducted in Edeoha community in Ahoada East Local Government Area, Rivers State, and Onopa Community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The collaborative effort between the joint venture and the communities was praised for its positive impact and commitment to development.
