The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has welcomed the recent admonition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding political parties altering their logos or flags without due process.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu, during a stakeholders meeting with political parties, expressed disapproval of the practice of changing flags and logos arbitrarily, deeming it unacceptable to the commission.
Speaking at the NNPP’s National Headquarters in Abuja, the National Secretary of the Party, Comrade Sunday Oginni, emphasized that the party firmly resisted attempts by the Kwankwaso faction to tamper with its identity and logo, rendering such efforts futile.
Oginni clarified that discussions regarding a merger are unfounded, stressing that only the party’s founder, Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, holds the authority to make such decisions.
He expressed confidence in NNPP’s vision for a new era in Nigeria’s governance.
Comrade Oginni commended INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu for boldly declaring the unacceptable nature of logo and flag alterations by political parties.
He condemned the actions of the Kwakwasiya group, led by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso, to tamper with NNPP’s logo and identity, asserting that such actions are condemnable.
Furthermore, Oginni warned against misleading claims of merger discussions involving Senator Kwakwanso, emphasizing that NNPP’s certificate of registration remains in the possession of its founder, Boniface Aniebonam.
He clarified that according to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, any merger must involve the submission of the certificate, which is held by NNPP, not Kwakwanso’s faction.
In conclusion, NNPP reiterated its commitment to upholding its integrity and urged the public to be wary of deceptive politicians seeking to manipulate the party’s identity for their own agendas.
