Former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has removed all traces of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from his campaign headquarters.
Located within the four-storey Ayinke Towers, renamed Oranmiyan House, along Gbongan-Ibadan road in Osogbo, the capital, this campaign hub has undergone a significant makeover.
Formerly adorned with APC colors, flags, and portraits of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former governor and APC National Chairman, Bisi Akande, and ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, the building now boasts large images of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and the late Chief Bola Ige, with Rauf Aregbesola’s photo inserted prominently.
Additionally, the massive APC logo has been replaced by that of the Omoluabi Progressive Caucus, signaling a shift in allegiance.
This transformation coincides with preparations for the 2026 gubernatorial election in the state.
A similar revamp was observed at Aregbesola’s campaign office in his hometown, Ilesa.
Explaining the motive behind these changes, a member of the Omoluabi Progressive Caucus in Ilesa, Kazeem Olanrewaju, emphasized a return to the progressive ideals that birthed the APC. He criticized Tinubu and Akande for deviating from these principles and emphasized the importance of impactful governance over power politics.
Although the APC banners and logos may return later, this move reflects Aregbesola’s divergence from Tinubu, particularly after his public criticism of the president in January 2022 and his absence from APC rallies ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
