Northern group ask court to stop constitution review

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has written to the Federal High court of Nigeria sitting in Abuja, seeking the court to restrain the national assembly from continuing with the ongoing constitutional review process.

In a motion of notice served to the court seen by The Times, the plaintiffs; Nastura Ashir Shariff, Balarabe Rufa’i, Abdul-Aziz Suleiman and Aminu Adam are seeking the court to stop the defendants from continuing with the process.

The defendants in the case are the attorney general of the federation, the Senate president, the house of representatives speaker and the national assembly.

The group through it’s spokesman, Abdul-Aziz Suleiman said it “Wrote letters to norther emirs, national assembly, and lastly to the federal high court of Nigeria where we are asking the court to determine the termination of Biafra or uphold it,”

The CNG said it also became necessary to seek an order restraining the national from conducting the ongoing constitutional review pending the determination of the court as they insist there must be a nation first and a people before any constitution amendment.

Motion seeking an order restraining the defendants from carrying out the current amendment of the constitution pending the determination of the suit.

The group presented 4 grounds of appeal and 42 paragraph affidavit seeking the suspension of constitution review as well as “The combined effect of provisions of section 4 article 1, 2 and 27 of African Charter the 4, the fourth defendant is allowed to determine their bid for self determination,”
