In a stunning turn of events, Abba Burakita, the notorious ringleader of thugs in Kano, who was declared wanted by the Kano State Police Command two weeks ago, has voluntarily turned himself in to the authorities. Burakita, known for his involvement in deadly political thuggery in Kano, surrendered himself and 40 of his gang members, along with their dangerous weapons, to the command headquarters.
This development comes shortly after more than 200 criminal groups embraced the state government’s amnesty initiative, surrendering their weapons and renouncing their criminal activities.
The Kano State Police Command, led by CP Mohammad Usaini Gumel, had placed a N500 million bounty on any individual who could provide credible information about the whereabouts of Abba Burakita and one of his close associates, Hantar Daba. Both were declared wanted for their alleged involvement in criminal activities.
In a statement by the police spokesperson in Kano, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, it was announced that Burakita and his 40 followers have willingly surrendered and handed over their weapons to the police. They expressed their commitment to turning over a new leaf and assisting the police in combating crime.
“The good news is that Burakita has finally surrendered himself to the Police Command. He was accompanied by his family members and a renowned Police Special Constabulary, Ado Runto. They have requested to be part of the state government’s amnesty program, as they are now ready to contribute to the promotion of peace and sustainable development in the state.
“In addition, Burakita brought along a total of 40 followers from his gang of thugs, whom he had a significant influence over during the supremacy fight (Fadan Yan Daba) that lasted for over ten (10) years. The overall objective is to ensure the restoration of peace in Kano State, indicating renewed hope for the state.”
CP Gumel urged anyone with complaints against Burakita to report to the Office of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at the Police Public Relations Officer’s (PPRO) office in Bompai Police Headquarters, Kano, to lodge their complaints. This development marks a significant step towards curbing criminal activities and promoting peace in the state.
