Osun LG Crisis: APC Accuses Adeleke of Court Plot, Mayhem Plans; Govt Denies, Blames APC’s ‘Illegal Occupation’
By Ajadi Ashraf, Kaduna.
Tensions in Osun State’s local government administration escalated on Sunday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) accused Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration of plotting to secure a court order and deploy thugs to forcefully oust reinstated APC council officials from council secretariats across the state.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo, former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Sunday Akere, alleged that the state government, in collaboration with the PDP, has perfected plans to obtain a mandamus judgment from a High Court in Ikirun. The judgment, the APC claims, is aimed at reinstating PDP-appointed council officials and allowing them access to the secretariats, using the Amotekun Corps and alleged thugs to enforce the order.
Akere described the planned court ruling as “kangaroo,” warning that it could lead to widespread violence and a breakdown of law and order on April 17, 2025, when the PDP officials allegedly intend to reclaim the councils.
He further claimed the court decision is part of a broader strategy to undermine a prior Court of Appeal ruling that reinstated APC officials, and said the move seeks to “violently chase away” legitimate council officers.
Echoing the concerns, former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Adebayo Adeleke, urged the governor to ensure the safety of citizens and reinstated officials. He pointed to statements by NULGE members who cited insecurity as a reason for their absence from work, saying this indicates a failure in governance.
In response, the Osun State Government dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated. Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said the APC is “blackmailing the judiciary” in a bid to deflect attention from legal challenges over what he described as the party’s “unconstitutional occupation” of council offices.
Rasheed revealed that the APC is currently facing three lawsuits: one from PDP’s ALGON, another from NULGE, and a third from the All Peoples Party (APP), all challenging the APC’s continued presence in the secretariats despite a court ruling that reportedly invalidated their positions.
Describing the APC’s alarm as “mere fantasy,” Rasheed accused the party of attempting to avoid the consequences of its “illegal occupation” by stirring public sentiment and undermining judicial authority.
As legal battles and political tensions heighten, security remains a key concern for residents and officials alike in Osun’s ongoing local government leadership crisis.

Caught in the middle: Ortom’s silent dance between two camps.
There are growing questions about where Mr. Samuel Ortom, a former Governor of Benue State and a prominent figure in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), truly stands politically ahead of 2027.
Ortom was a key figure in the divisions within the PDP before the 2023 general elections and was widely associated with support for Mr. Peter Obi, who finished third in that contest. More recently, however, he has publicly expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The latest discussion began after a visit by Mr. Peter Obi to Benue State. Reports indicate that a vehicle said to belong to Ortom was used to receive Obi at the Air Force Base airport in Makurdi. It is not clear who authorized the use of the vehicle, and Ortom has not commented publicly on the matter.
During the same visit, Obi was reportedly prevented from travelling to Yelewata, where he had intended to condole with families affected by violence. Obi’s team attributed the blockage to supporters of Governor Hyacinth Alia.
The Governor’s spokesman, Sir Tersoo Kula, denied any involvement by the Governor. He suggested the incident may have been staged to damage the Governor’s reputation, or that it could have resulted from disagreements within Obi’s own support base.
Ortom has not issued a statement clarifying his position on the 2027 elections or on the vehicle in question. Attempts to reach him were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
