PEBEC stages play to honour ease of doing biz champions
The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) has unveiled plans to honour men and women who have helped in the reforms and policies delivery on ease of doing business in the country.
Dr Jumoke Oduwole, PEBEC Secretary and Special Advisor to the President on Ease of Doing Business, who said this at a news briefing in Abuja, said that PEBEC would stage a play, titled: “The Future is here”, to celebrate these champions.
She said that the play, which would come in two segments was meant to celebrate Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) relevant government agencies’ officials that were helping in the policies delivery.
The presidential aide said 4000 tickets would be given free to watch the play, which would be held in Abuja on Oct.1 and Oct. 2, at the NAF centre as part of Independence Day celebration.
Oduwole said that the event was meant to appreciate and make all who had contributed in delivering the reforms so far accomplished in the ease of doing business interventions, relax with their families and friends.
According to her, the PEBEC was launched in 2016, and has been working for the last six years on enabling environments across the country on ease of doing business.
“Now, in that six year period, we’ve done a number of reforms for small and medium sized enterprises.
“And, men and women who have delivered these reforms are none other than our public and civil service across ministries, departments and agencies at all arms and levels of government.
“So, we have federal agencies, we work with state governments, and local governments, we also work with all arms of government, we work with the National Assembly and with the judiciary,” she said.
She said that the agency had worked with all arms and levels of government to achieve its mandate of ease of doing business in the country.
She said that the secretariat had decided to celebrate the champion to mark the Independent Day whereby they could relax with their families and friends.
“And the reason why we’re doing this is that we feel it’s important to celebrate the men and women who have delivered the reforms that we’ve been able to accomplish so far, in the ease of doing business intervention.
“We also want to celebrate our indefatigable entrepreneurs, the micro small and medium sized enterprises who have been working tirelessly to make a living and edge their living through entrepreneurship across the country,” she said.
According to her, a shorter version of the PEBEC play was premiered last December at its 5th anniversary and it was very well received by the audience was also streamed online.
“But we felt it was important to redo the play to do to make the play publicly available.
“So we’ve selected Independence Day weekend to celebrate men and women, the public and civil servants who have delivered the reforms are reform champions,” she said.
According to her `the PEBEC Play is a gamut of business reforms designed to create awareness, further communicate and engage our target audience in celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Day.
“The future is here” focuses on the narrative of a future that we can collaboratively create, A future riding on Government’s reforms, The future of our dream! This future that we seek!
“The future where Government numerous reforms smile at everyone; A future with no artificial barricade; A future where everyone can do business with ease A future built by the strength of our hands and by the resolve of the collective will of the people! One people one nation Handmaids of God’s creation the future is here!
“The future is here is an excellent musical that creates awareness for Governments reforms to create an enabling environment for MSME’s and the resolve of the people, a new tribe to do what is right,” she said.
The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to maintain the status quo in a dispute over the party’s candidates emerging from the Benue State APC primaries for the 2027 general election.
The order was made on Thursday by Justice Inyang Ekwo during proceedings in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1429/2026, filed by Engr. Sesugh Akaagba and other aggrieved APC candidates from Benue State against the APC and INEC.
The plaintiffs had, through an ex parte motion filed on July 5, 2026, sought six interim reliefs, including an order restraining the APC from substituting its validly nominated candidates in Benue State through its June 29, 2026 correspondence, or any subsequent communication, to INEC, pending determination of the substantive suit.
They also sought an order compelling the APC to immediately transmit to INEC the names of candidates validly nominated during the primaries monitored by the electoral commission.
When the matter first came up on July 8, 2026, the court declined to grant the interim application immediately, directing both APC and INEC to appear and respond before any decision was taken. The matter was adjourned to July 16.
At Thursday’s proceedings, counsel representing the APC and INEC were present in court, while the plaintiffs were represented by Mohammed Ndarani, SAN, alongside his legal team.
In his ruling, Justice Ekwo held that since issues had been joined by the parties particularly with INEC now before the court, the defendants were required by law to preserve the subject matter of the litigation pending determination of the substantive suit.
When counsel to the plaintiffs urged the court to caution APC and INEC against taking any further action that could affect the disputed list of candidates, the judge responded that it was “not a matter of advice but of law,” stressing that the defendants were bound to maintain the status quo.
The court consequently restrained APC and INEC from taking any action capable of altering the disputed list of candidates pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
The defendants did not object to the restraining order.
At the commencement of proceedings, the court noted that all parties had voluntarily submitted to its jurisdiction by duly filing and exchanging their respective processes.
It held that there was no procedural or jurisdictional impediment to the expeditious determination of the substantive action, and directed that the matter be heard without further delay.
In furtherance of the objective of preserving the res and safeguarding the efficacy of the judicial process, the court ordered all parties to maintain the status quo pending the hearing and final determination of the substantive suit, restraining any act or omission capable of prejudicing the rights of the parties or rendering the proceedings nugatory.
The court further directed that INEC be served forthwith with the originating and all consequential processes.
The effect of the subsisting order is that INEC is restrained from tampering with the existing list of candidates pending final determination of the suit, and from receiving, recognising, or acting upon any purported substituted list of National Assembly candidates from Benue State submitted by the APC.
The matter was adjourned to July 21, 2026, for hearing of the substantive suit.
